What is Viniyoga?
The name itself explains the philosophy: "Vini" is translated from Sanskrit as "the adaption and variation done to the individual in need to the task at hand." That’s exactly what this practice is—adapting the tools of yoga to fit the individual.
While all yoga has roots in the teachings of Krishnamacharya, Viniyoga was developed as a specific methodology by his son, Desikachar, and further popularized by Gary and Mirka Kraftsow. The core principle remains: Viniyoga adapts traditional yoga practices to fit an individual's unique needs, limitations, and goals.
Who is Viniyoga For?
Viniyoga is perfect for those looking for specialized attention and a truly customized practice. This methodology is highly effective for:
Therapeutic Needs:
Individuals seeking specialized attention due to a physical condition, an injury, or illness.
Functional Improvement:
Anyone interested in changing dysfunctional movement patterns and forming new, sustainable structural and functional movements for their unique body.
Deep Customization:
Practitioners who desire personalized instruction that honors their current abilities and specific goals.
The Power of the Personalized Approach
In Viniyoga, we don't force the body into a pose; we adapt the pose to the body. Your personalized instruction may include variations in breath (pranayama), movement (asana), chanting (mantra), and meditation to create a practice that is uniquely healing and supportive for your current stage of life and health.
